Heading into the Inaugural Season of the MLU in 2013, the Philadelphia Spinners were considered an early favorite in the Eastern Conference with a veteran roster that had experience playing professional ultimate. After victories in their first two matchups of the season, the prognosticators appeared to be correct. But, as their Eastern Conference rivals gained experience playing together in the professional style, the Spinners were in for a rude awakening.
Through the first two games, Spinners cutter and LSU product Sean Murray was proving to be a dominant force in the league. Entering their third game of the year, Murray had tallied five goals, four blocks, an assist and was gearing up for what would be the most productive game of his career. Facing the Washington D.C. Current for the second time, Murray put up four goals, three assists and a block. While Murray’s efforts would ultimately be in vain, with the Current handing the Spinners their first loss of the year (BOXSCORE – WATCH GAME), the New Orleans native would make one of the most impressive catches in league history, the first MLU play to make ESPN SportsCenter’s Top 10.
